How is it done?Fatty deposits under the chin can be managed with a procedure called submental liposuction. Liposuction reduces the number of fat cells in a localized area. It is ideal for refining the contour of the neck and jaw line and eliminating heavy jowls.
Anytime you have a fullness of the neck behind and below the chin despite being at a reasonable weight is the time to consider liposuction surgery. This can be performed as an isolated procedure usually up to one's early 40's. Beyond this age, it must be combined with a facelift as the skin loses its elasticity as we get older and therefore it may not redrape in a natural fashion unless combined with facelift surgery.
After liposuction a snug dressing is applied and usually removed by Dr Bartlett the day after surgery. Thereafter you wear an elasticized facial garment for approximately one week. Pain is minimal, most patients using mild pain relievers.
Most people return to work within a week of surgery.
