How is laser resurfacing done?

Back to Laser Surgery OverviewAnesthesia

Laser resurfacing is done using a local anesthetic with sedation in most cases thus eliminating the risk of a general anesthetic.

Procedure

Using a CO2 (carbon dioxide ) laser, the surface layer of your skin is vaporized to create a controlled wound that heals with ingrowth of new collagen and elastic fibers.

This translates into tightening and smoothing of the skin setting back the clock in some cases 10- 20 years. It can be performed on one area such as under the eyes and crowsfeet or multiple creases around your mouth or applied to the entire face.

The laser resurfacing procedure takes abut 30 minutes to an hour, depending on how large an area there is to treat. Afterward you go home with detailed instructions on how to care for the resurfaced area.
